The CLaSH vision:
Transforming the science of cascading geohazards to enable just and resilient society in the face of increasing climate threats
The CLaSH Mission:
- Catalyze a paradigm of cascading hazards science by leveraging new and existing data to predict how solid earth and critical zone processes interact with accelerating climate change to impact future threats.
- Galvanize a diverse community of researchers who accelerate convergence and innovation in cascading geohazard science.
- Improve resilience of susceptible communities by establishing strong partnerships with scientific and public service organizations that enhance collaboration, expand inclusivity, and exchange knowledge.
- Prepare the future geohazard workforce for new challenges by broadening participation and providing dynamic programs that emphasize inclusive field training, ethical engagement during disasters, and critical computational skills.
CLaSH Values:
- Innovation: research, education and outreach to transform cascading hazards science and empower communities and a diverse workforce
- Collaboration: engaging community and scientific partners to enhance research and societal resilience
- Diversity: broadening participation in the geosciences and workforce to enrich land surface hazards understanding, preparedness and response
- Inclusion: integrating ethics, equity, accessibility, belonging and justice in all CLaSH activities and programs, for Center personnel and trainees, external partners and the communities we engage
